After transferring to the small village of Imlil, we started our trek. Following the Mizane Valley, we first pass the village of Aremd and then the Sidi Chamarouch Shrine. We then continued east, across the floodplain. Our route took us up mule tracks into high rocky cliffs above the valley. Finally crossing the river, we came to the shepherd shrine of Sidi Chamarouch, which attracts tourists and pilgrims alike. From here the trail climbs steadily, zigzags to the snowline and Toukbal Hut (3206m), where we spend the night. Approximately overnight at Mouflon Refuge, 0.5 to 6 hours walk.
In the morning, we try to climb Jebel Toukbal, the highest mountain in North Africa. Our path leads us to the southern basin and across the stream above the refuge. The walk is relatively easy, but the gravel and elevation make it quite difficult at times .The views along the way make this trip worthwhile. When you reach the top, the views over the surrounding countryside are stunning. From here, there are sweeping views in every direction, from the plains of Marrakech to the High Atlas Mountains in the north, to the Anti-Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert in the south. As we descend back down the mountain to the Toubkal (Argali) sanctuary, we will retrace our steps, where we will spend the night.
Today we walked back from the Toubkal shelter. After breakfast to Imlil, we stop at Sidi Chamharouch shrine for a cup of tea, then we continue to Imlil via Armed, where we meet our driver and return to Marrakech to check in at the hotel in Marrakech
